Prof. Dr. Constantinos Deltas, Director, Center of Excellence in Biobanking and Biomedical Research, Medical School, University of Cyprus

Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics, at the Medical School, UCY. He has coordinated in the past numerous multidisciplinary projects with several partners in Cyprus and abroad, successfully, with smaller and larger budgets, in the order of many thousands and millions of euros. He has been running his own lab since 1991 and he has provided the research and educational incubator, which trained more than 60 scientists at all levels, including faculty from other Universities, medical doctors, postdoctoral fellows, PhD & MSc students, undergraduate diploma students and technologists.

 

Dr. Christiana Fillippou Charidimou, Senior Officer, Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Cyprus  

Dr. Christiana Fillippou Charidimou is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the School of Sciences, European University Cyprus (EUC). She holds a Doctor in Professional Studies (2011) from Middlesex University, UK, specializing in Clinical Dietetics, Nutrition, and Health Education, an MSc in Sports Nutrition (1991), and a BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics (1989) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She is also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), credentialed by the U.S. Commission on Dietetic Registration since 1991. Her research and publications focus on nutrition and health promotion, including school canteen nutrition guidelines, weight management protocols, practical dietetics guides, and studies on physical activity, cardiovascular risk factors, type 2 diabetes, and obesity in the Cypriot population.

Dr. Andrie Panayiotou, Secretary, Cyprus Epidemiology and Public Health Association 

Dr Andrie Panayiotou is Assistant Professor in Public Health at the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health, CUT, since 2011. She is an epidemiologist with special interest in preventing cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis and her work has focused mainly on risk factors and biomarkers (genetic, biochemical, environmental and social) for cardiovascular health and disease, while she has recently expanded research work to include risk factors for the cardiorenal syndrome and vascular ageing (arterial stiffness as a proxy for CVD), under the “common grounds for disease” hypothesis. Since 2011 she has established and heads the Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Genetics lab at CII. She additionally co-ordinates “The Cyprus Study”, an on-going general population cohort study which she helped set-up and which participates in several large international consortia publishing joint results in high-impact journals such as Nature Genetics, JACC, BMJ and others. She is also the Secretary and founding member of the newly established Cyprus Atherosclerosis Society (CAS), while she also sits at the board of the National Bioethics Committee and heads the Cyprus Unit on Bioethics under the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (Haifa). She was recently appointed by CAS as National Lead Co-investigator to set-up the Cyprus National Registry for Familial Hypercholesterolemia (Cyprus-FH), part of a global effort on FH (EAS-FHSC).

Dr. Elena Rousou, Assistant Professor, Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology

Dr. Elena Rousou is an Assistant Professor in the Nursing Department, School of Health Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology. She holds a diploma in General Nursing (Nursing School Cyprus – 1990), specialization in Community Nursing (Nursing School Cyprus – 2007), Degree in Nursing (Anglia Polytechnic University in the United Kingdom -1995) and MSc in Management of Healthcare Sector (Open University of Cyprus – 2009). Since 2015 she holds a PhD in Community – Family Nursing / Public Health at the Cyprus University of Technology. She worked as a Nursing Officer in public hospitals in Larnaca and Limassol (1995 – 2002). Between 2002-2009 she worked as a clinical trainer and teacher at the Nursing School of Cyprus. Since 2009 she works as Special Nursing Scientific Staff at the Department of Nursing – School of Health Sciences. He specializes in community and family nursing and health promotion. Dr Rousou’s research interests focus in the field of Community – Family Nursing and Health Promotion and specifically in Vulnerable Population Groups. Her research work focuses on assessing the health status of single mothers, especially the detection of psychosomatic problems and depression and the role of social support. At the same time, her research extends to vulnerable population groups and transcultural nursing, as she is involved as a research assistant in the Erasmus + programs (IENE 4, IENE 5, IENE 6).v In addition, she participated as a research assistant in the Erasmus + JOBIS program dealing with a training program for burnout in healthcare professionals. Additionally, she is an MC member two COST actions (COST Action IS1206 – Femicide Across Europe and COST Action CA15208 – RANCARE).

Dr Agapios Agapiou, Assistant Professor, University of Cyprus

Dr. Agapios Agapiou is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cyprus, specializing in the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with applications in human chemical signatures, air quality, disease diagnosis, and environmental monitoring. He earned his Diploma (2001) and PhD (2006) in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and before joining UCY in 2014, he served as Laboratory Teaching Staff at NTUA. His research also extends to aroma profiling, toxicological decomposition of organic matter, and the study of fuels and natural gas, with numerous publications in leading scientific journals.
